Winter Style Guide

As winter wraps its frosty arms around us, there's no better time to transform your home into a cozy haven that radiates warmth and style.

Hot Chocolate Bar Cart

If you already have a bar cart at home, this one’s a no brainer. Find some old-fashioned mason jars to stock with candy canes, cinnamon sticks, and marshmallows to make for a rustic-inspired cocoa cart. Spruce up the cart with festive mugs, garland, or even miniature trees to give things a wintry vibe.

DIY Garland and Ornaments

Fruit and spice garlands (typically dehydrated orange slices, apple slices and cranberries) can be a great Christmas craft and decoration! Spend a couple hours quality time in the kitchen with the kids, your friends or significant other and have lovely Christmas décor that you can use for years to come.

You will need:

a few oranges

parchment paper

cookie sheets (or cake pans if your oven is teeny tiny like mine)

cotton twine

an embroidery needle

Instructions

cut your oranges into thin slices (roughly 1/3-inch thick)

arrange the slices on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. (I didn't use paper on the first batch but ended up having to scrape the burnt pieces off so I opted to use the paper on the second batch)

set your oven to the lowest possible temperature. Bake for 2-4 hours, flipping every 45 minutes or so, until dried. I took mine out a bit early but it was fine because the orange slices finish drying once they're hung.

string you needle, poke it through each side of the orange slices, continuing until your garland is as long as you want it.

Layered Garland

Take this classic Christmas décor to the next level with a little bit of love. Deck your classic green garland, with details like ribbon, bows, wooden beads, bells, ornaments, pinecones and other garland or tinsel. Start by draping the garland over the mantel, table or windowsill and then get to sprucing up with your extra flair. There aren’t any hard and fast rules so have fun with mixing and matching the décor!

Lighting

The holidays are synonymous with lights. Make your space feel merry and bright by matching the perfect type of lighting to your décor. Is your décor classic or rustic? Opt for warm, yellow and ambient lighting that isn’t too harsh. If you have a very whimsical or wintry style, twinkling fairy lights might be a nice touch. Think outside the box and get creative with candles, candle holders, lamps, string lights and lanterns.

Blankets

Cozy blankets and throws are a must for anybody’s winter styled space. For a more polished or preppy look, hang blankets over a ladder shelf or fold them over the ottoman. For cozy, casual vibes, pile your throws in a basket or bin and let them spill out. For something that feels lived-in but still chic, draping the blankets over your bed or sofa will do the trick.

This winter, let your interior design embrace the chill and turn your home into a sanctuary of warmth and style. By incorporating these ideas, you'll not only stay cozy but also create a space that reflects the enchantment of the winter season. So, grab a cup of hot cocoa, snuggle up in your favorite blanket, and revel in the beauty of your winter-inspired abode.
