Designer Series - Hal Davis

Published: October 19, 2024

Born and raised in Iowa I knew from an early age that I was destined to be some sort of artist or designer. Raised by a stay at home mom with a keen eye for design and an ability to be creative on a budget my love for design took flight.

Hal Davis is featured at Homemakers

My journey has taken me all over the country designing beautiful home interiors and establishing lasting relationships with my clients.

Designing homes in IA, MN, MO, NE, IL, WI, OK, TX, FL, CEO, AZ, CA, KS.

Many locals may be familiar with my name due to the fact that I was featured on an HGTV Show called West End Salvage which was based on an architectural salvage store called West End Architectural Salvage in downtown Des Moines. The film crew followed owner Don Short, myself and the and the crew around central Iowa creating interesting interiors with reclaimed salvage goods.

During my career I was lucky enough to be a freelance interior designer for Meredith corporation Better Homes & Gardens magazines. I have been featured and published in many national publications such as:

  • Traditional Home
  • Country Home
  • Paint Decor
  • Window and Wall Ideas
  • Quick and Easy Decorating
  • Wood
  • Creative Home
  • Kids Rooms
  • Renovation Style
  • And many others

Locally I have been featured in:

  • DSM Magazine
  • DSM Home Style
  • Welcome Home
  • Des Moines Register

I was asked to collaborate with Homemakers to create several vignettes to showcase and highlight their current collections arriving to the floor.

In these rooms I wanted you to feel a sense of calm, create conversation, and tell a personal story. To achieve this I used dark rich hues, metals, wood and multiple textures. I create environments that look curated and collected. Many of the pieces featured are inspired by nature or are naturally found items. The furniture pieces have unique character and are timeless often transcending eras. My designs mix different design styles from multiple eras to create unique eye catching spaces. I want my interiors to be on trend but not trendy. You can achieve this by adding pieces that are current and trendy but don’t overtake your space. Trends will always change and you will always be chasing them.

Furniture design, many times follow clothing and fashion trends. This year we’re seeing dark rich hues. Experiment with color. Color is welcoming and creates interest. The color brown is coming on strong in design. We are seeing this color emerging in many home interiors from fabric, cabinetry and accessories.

I hope you enjoy walking through the rooms here. Feel free to step in and sit down and be a part of this environment.
